About Katch


Katch Skinner is a tutor in ceramics and maker of things. She uses all sorts of hand building and mould making for slip casting . Each earthenware piece is unique, using hand painted underglazes, slips for mono printing and sgraffito.

Katch makes everything from scratch, design, sculpt, mould making, casting, fettling, painting, firing and glazing is all done by her in her studio in Hebden Bridge, making the work unique and not mass produced.

Currently based at Northlight Art Studios in Hebden Bridge, she has years of ceramic teaching experience from adult education up to degree level.

Katch specialises in exhibition related pieces for museums and gallery shops, alongside domestic ware she make one off pieces for exhibitions and commissions. With work currently on show at Cliffe Castle and Abbey House Museum.

This year she is busy making National Portrait Gallery’s best selling little cups for the reopening of the gallery this summer.

"I love ceramics - all types and processes, taking the wet clay and changing it be something totally different from its original state. There is still an excitement for me every time I go to open the kiln, I am always learning from it, it’s a medium that keeps you on your toes and has an addictive alchemy."
